Heather Hans, a successful psychotherapist, intuitive coach, spiritual guide, and business woman, believes in the power of total well-being to lead a successful and harmonious life. She has been assisting people who have the passion to succeed. According to her, if a person is creative, motivated, astute, brave, and has the innate desire to do something for the world, impossible is nothing.

Personally, Heather has achieved great levels of success in her life. Dedication, time, and accountability are the three building blocks if you want to achieve success and fulfill your dreams.

Five tips for a successful life by Heather Hans

1. Believe in yourself – Our desires are the stimulus of our thoughts. Therefore, whatever you have achieved so far has a direct relation to the fact that you had faith in yourself that you could do it. Once this undying faith is established, you can move on to other steps to obtain success.

2. Attain total health and healing – There is a strong interrelation between mind-body-spirit. Therefore, you should work on developing a harmony within your mind, body, and soul – the trio serves as the foundation for success. You can take help of self-help books and professionals in your goal to sustain a good physical, mental and spiritual health. Be diligent in your efforts and always trust your instincts.

3. Discover your inner desires – Explore within and find out your deepest desires. Together with your hard work, the law of the universe would also turn in your favor to let you accomplish your goals. Ascertain the goals that are in tune with your values. The law of attraction states that focusing on positive thoughts will give you positive results provided your goals are in harmony with the world. The universe will push you towards your goals if they sow the seeds of love and betterment of the world.

4. Align your goals and be brave – Positive thoughts can certainly help create a positive aura to achieve a goal but only intentions wouldn’t help. You need to work hard to create a blueprint of your goals. Create plans, seize the opportunities, develop a proactive nature and look for results. A number of factors would try to stop you from achieving your big dreams, these are mere roadblocks, ignore them. Diligently work towards your goal. Remember, if something is not happening as per your plan, a new plan would do the trick. Don’t give up at any step.

5. Enjoy your life – The whole exercise of dream fulfillment is to help you realize your inner desires and lead a happy life. So why not enjoy it while in the process of dream fulfillment. If you are enjoying the whole process, you would be more relaxed with your present state and hence will have renewed energy that will drive more creative ideas and results. Besides, what is more satisfying than enjoying life.

These five success strategies from Heather Hans can put you on the road to success. Follow these step-by-step to lead a harmonious life.

“I’m having a bad day!” is a fairly common refrain that we are all accustomed to hearing. Or, it may be something like “Oh, what a bad morning!”. If we reflect a bit on those two statements, we’ll realise that what we are expressing is our perception and judgement about the day. It is a qualitative/ subjective opinion that has the potential to ruin the entire day for you. All it takes is some mental adjustment- a shift in the frames of reference- and the very same ‘bad morning’ will seem so much better. That age-old positive thinking mantra- look at a bottle as half-full rather than half-empty- holds true as ever; here are some simple tips, adapted from a recent article on the Inc. website, to make that important mental shift to the positive side of things!

1. Accept that what’s happened has happened; don’t equate the past with the future. Just because something “bad” happened previously, don’t let your mind tell you it will happen again.

2. Avoid creating self-fulfilling prophecies: yes, it’s the flip side of the The Law of Attraction. Reinforcement of negative thoughts invariably leads to actions that yield negative or undesirable results. So, stop saying to yourself “it’s a bad day that can get worse” as that will happen eventually if you do!

3. Think “proportion”: in the big scheme of things ie. your life, how much of a big deal was the event that makes you rue the morning? Most things that we allow ourselves to get upset with are often so inconsequential that we might struggle to remember it a week or even a day from now. Taking a big picture view will really help put things in perspective.

4. Re-define the parameters of good and bad: For instance, just redefining a good day as one in which you are able to stand on your feet and a bad day as one in which you find yourself in a desolate island in an unknown corner of the world can make you feel so much better. Re-defining boundaries is known to do wonders in many facets of life, including business. That Jack Welch asked his senior managers to define their markets such that they couldn’t have more than 10-15% of market share is part of business folklore, the kind of re-definition that propelled GE to new heights.

5. Break the vicious pattern that your body and mind can get you into: We all know that a bad mood has an effect on the body, draining it of energy, which in turn worsens your mood and so on. Energise your body with some activity to break or prevent that vicious pattern from setting in.

6. Reinforce what’s going well; focus your mind on the positives around you. If only you were willing to look, you will find a lot more things going in your favor than against. List them and then make it a point to look at those again and again.

7. Build positive expectation – just as it is easy to be trapped by negative self-fulfilling prophecies, you can make it easy to expect and attract something positive. Expect and then believe that something wondeful is about to happen to you. Experience the change that this wonderful sense of anticipation can bring about.

American born author, Napoleon Hill is one of the greatest authors of personal success development. He is the most loved author who began to write in small newspapers while he was just 13. His first ever classic work, Think and Grow Rich (1937), turned out to be the best seller of all times. This book has helped a number of people, including victorious personalities, such as Clement Stone, a self-made billionaire.

The prolific writer has written several motivational books which emphasizes on achieving your personal goal by making strategies. He has spent around 25 years to identify why everyone doesn’t achieve happiness and financial success? Hill laid out 13 principles of success in the form of philosophy in his motivational self-help debut writing, “Think and Grow Rich”. As a publisher, he owned a media house that has published few of his works. Think And Grow Rich’s second edition, a rework and a compressed version of the original, was released in the year 1960.

As a person, Hill was a versatile man, a contingent entrepreneur who became an author and later on a leading advisor to some of the United States’ millionaires and also to Franklin D. Roosevelt, The President. He always preached about personal beliefs and its role in success. Hill’s last work “You Can Work Your Own Miracles” got printed after he departed in November of 1970.

“Fears are nothing more than a state of mind.”

“First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”

“The only place where your dream becomes impossible is in your own thinking.”

- Robert Schuller, American televangelist, pastor, speaker, motivator and author.

“The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.”

-Anonymous

These two quotes when read in succession gives an idea that impossible is nothing. By reconditioning your mind to think in a positive manner, you can see impossible in the light of I M Possible.

Let us illustrate this with the help of an example, a real story that happened between the customer of General Motors and its Customer-Care Executive.

General Motors’ Pontiac Division received a customer complaint as follows:

This is the second time I am writing to you, and I don’t blame you for not answering me, because I sounded crazy, but it is a fact that we have a tradition in our family of Ice- Cream for dessert after dinner each night.

But the kind of ice cream varies every night. So, after we are done with our dinner, the family votes on which kind of ice cream to have. I drive down to the store to buy it.

It’s also a fact that I have recently purchased a new Pontiac and since then my trips to the store have created a problem. You see, every time I buy a vanilla ice-cream, when I start back from the store, my car won’t start. If I get any other kind of ice cream, the car starts just fine. I want you to know and I’m serious about this!

My question may sound silly but “What is there about a Pontiac that makes it not start when I get a vanilla ice cream, and easy to start whenever I get any other kind?”

After reading the letter, the president at The Pontiac division was understandably skeptical about the complaint. Despite his disbelief, he still sent an engineer to look into the matter.

“In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd.” - Miguel de Cervantes

When the engineer met the customer, he was surprised to see a well-educated man at the outset. He met him after the dinnertime so that he could accompany the customer to the ice cream store. That night was the vanilla ice cream night and as said in the letter, the car wouldn’t start after they bought it.

The engineer came back again for three subsequent nights to understand the issue. The first time they got chocolate ice cream and the car started. The second night it was strawberry and the car started again. The third night was vanilla and the car failed to start.

Being an engineer, the man believed in logic and couldn’t bring himself to believe that the car was allergic to vanilla ice cream. Therefore, he continued his visits with the man to the ice cream parlor as he was determined to solve the problem no matter how long it would take.

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” - Walt Disney

He started to make notes, of all sorts, the time of day, and type of gas used, time to drive back and forth etc. Very shortly, he got his clue. The engineer analyzed that the man took considerably less time to get the vanilla flavor as it was stored in the front of the store, being a popular pick. All other flavors were stored at the back of the store at a different counter and hence it took a relatively longer time to get those flavors.

Now, the engineer was surfaced with the question, why the car wouldn’t start when it took less time. Here it was, now time became the problem and not the vanilla ice cream. Soon enough, the engineer realized that the issue pertains to “vapor lock”.

The problem was happening each night however the extra time to get other flavors let the engine the needed space to cool down sufficiently to start. Since the vanilla ice cream was bought fast, the engine did not get the time to cool and the vapor lock did not dissipate.

See, how crazy looking problems are sometimes real and how all problems seem simple only when we find the solution with a cool thinking.

“To achieve the impossible; it is precisely the unthinkable that must be thought.”
– Tom Robbins, an American author

It is easy to say impossible but hard to put sincere efforts and make the task possible. It is your attitude and your perception that really matters.

“It is impossible to win the race unless you venture to run, impossible to win the victory unless you dare to battle.” Richard M. DeVos, co-author of the book Believe!

Before reading James Allen’s classic self help book, As a Man Thinketh, I was a stern believer of destiny and luck. Although, I had a certain faith in the power of right thinking to attain success, I still though it is a good to know information that our unconscious thoughts can have a major influence on what happens with us.

In my case, I always believed in the power of positive thinking, but never practiced it when in difficult situations. Like me, there are several people who learn the important lessons of life the hard way.

Few years ago, when I was diagnosed with a rare skin disorder, which had no cure, I went into a self-imposed exile. As the disorder was progressing with each day, I shunned the world out of the fear of isolation and antagonism from the society. Although, I knew stress and negative thinking was weighing down the treatment results, I couldn’t stop myself from imagining me in a rotten state. This mental breakdown perhaps made my family introduce me to this life changing book named, As a Man Thinketh.

Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills: —
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass.

For me, these inspiring first lines by James Allen set the tone of a book that could literally change my destiny. The book tells us that our thoughts control our actions and make us what we are. If our thoughts are pure and generous, our actions would be so and if our thoughts are loaded with greed, we would come across as a selfish and paranoid person.

“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he,” not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”

Consider the case of a plant. Without a seed, a plant would not come into life. Similarly, the seeds of your thoughts are responsible for any act you do. Even the unplanned or spontaneous acts are a mirror to your thoughts.

“As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of a man springs from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them. This applies equally to those acts called “spontaneous” and “unpremeditated” as to those, which are deliberately executed.”

James Allen’s practical way towards life has inspired several millions of people to attain success in their endeavors. As a Man Thinketh is a book that stresses the power that each individual has towards shaping his/her own character and living with peace and happiness.

“As a being of Power, Intelligence, and Love, and the lord of his own thoughts, man holds the key to every situation, and contains within himself that transforming and regenerative agency by which he may make himself what he wills.”

In short, all of us possess the power and wisdom within us to transform ourselves to what we aim to. Luck or destiny is not what determines your life, it your thoughts that has brought you to this state and in future also it will guide you to what you visualize.

“Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results. This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn, nothing from nettles but nettles. Men understand this law in the natural world, and work with it; but few understand it in the mental and moral world (though its operation there is just as simple and undeviating), and they, therefore, do not co-operate with it.”

As you sow, so shall you reap… if you can understand this, your life would change overnight. It has certainly for me. Whenever you feel like you are stuck, re-visit the book and learn your lesson.

When we think about successful people– and granted, the definition of success is very likely different for different people– it is inevitable to consider the element of “luck”. There will be “n” number of instances that seem like mere coincidences. Some people call this being in the right place at the right time; others say, it is about making one’s luck. However accidental it might seem, most of these pleasant ‘accidents’ happen because a lot of preparation has gone into making those happen. Steve Tobak, a regular columnist at BNET, makes this very point in his article, The Five Characteristics of Successful People.

Let’s look at these 5 traits Steven mentions that lead people to success, with our own interpretations added in:
a) Being opportunistic: Open the door when opportunity knocks; be willing to be decisive and take bold decisions.

b) Ability to network and persuade people: The value of this skill cannot be overstated. What you know is important, but who you know is probably more important. The people you know will be able to unlock opportunities and get you to where you want to be.

c) Having a can-do attitude: The journey towards success is never a smooth one; it is one that will test one’s spirit, willingness and commitment to succeed to the fullest. A ‘can-do’ attitude is a must.

d) Being inquisitive: Success comes to people who seek answers. Be it an entrepreneur, an inventor, a manager – constantly asking the right questions and finding answers to those is critical. The quality of your questions will have a direct bearing on the quality of your answers; the quality of the answers/ solutions that you come up with differentiate you from others. As Francis Crick said, “If you ask big questions, you get big answers.”

e) Being genuine and open: If you believe that trust is a vital ingredient for achieving success, it is easy to see the importance of being genuine and open.

You may remember being told as a child, “Keep quiet!” “Children should be seen, not heard,” and “You talk too much.” You were a “good” kid if you kept quiet. However, being quiet when you are little causes big problems later in life.

As an adult, you may have been punished for communicating. For example, if you admit you committed a crime and are sorry about it, no one cares. You still go to jail. If you honestly tell your spouse you are thinking about an affair, your marriage suffers if your spouse is not very understanding. If you tell someone you feel a little crazy, who knows what might happen. So you learn to keep your mouth shut.

However, businesses fail when managers do not talk to employees or employees do not talk to customers. Everyone mistakenly believes telepathy is working. “I thought you knew I was unhappy with your performance.” “You should have known I was overworked.”

Marriages are ruined by poor communication. Rather than openly discuss sex, money, body problems or whatever, couples hint about their concerns or simply say nothing. But without support and understanding from your primary teammate, you do not go as far. In fact, a bad marriage can ruin everything in your life. Both parties in a successful marriage are able to give and receive communication from their spouse on any subject.

Life is miserable if you have no one to openly communicate with. Friendships are based on communication. The lack of friends or a spouse to communicate with often leads to mental problems.

So the first communication skill you need is to get out there and talk.

Unfortunately, on some topics, you’ve learned to watch what you say, to keep it under your hat, to zip it up.

“So that is the basic lesson that anybody learns in this universe. They learn to keep their mouth shut, and it’s the wrong lesson. When in doubt, talk. When in doubt, communicate.” — L. Ron Hubbard

Whenever you have doubts about something, COMMUNICATE! Talk, talk, talk until the problem resolves. When you feel stress, disagreement or resistance between you and someone near you, the wrong thing to do is ignore the problem. Instead, start communicating.

When you know you should say something, say it! For example, an employee knows another employee is embezzling money and so says something to the employee and/or boss. A doctor knows he must talk to a patient about the patient’s rude behavior to the office staff. An employer knows she must discuss poor performance issues with some employees.

Take the bull by the horns. Move ahead in life. Spit it out.

If you’re worried about the consequences of saying something, you can ask first. Examples:

“Lisa, I want to say something about your driving to help keep you out of accidents, but I don’t want to upset you. Can I tell you what I think or should I keep my mouth shut?”

“Boss, should I tell you if I think you are giving me bad advice?”

“John, our marriage means so much to me I don’t want to say anything that would jeopardize it. But I have done something wrong and I’m sorry I did it. I think it would be good for our relationship if I told you. Don’t you think it’s best if we are 100% honest with each other?”

“Can you listen to something unfortunate I have to say and remain calm? Are you ready?”

In the long run, you are always better off by communicating. Take responsibility and talk. Staying silent solves nothing.

The power of the mind draws certain events, circumstances and people into our lives and repels others. In this respect, it resembles a magnet. Just look at the people around you. Some pass through certain events and circumstances, while others pass through different experiences. Some accomplish certain things easily, and others accomplish these same things with great difficulty or not at all.

Your mind is composed of the thoughts you think. These thoughts are like magnetic currents. If you think positively about some event or action, you get positive results. If you harbor negative thoughts, this negativity is drawn into your life.

You attract into your life what you think about frequently. It does not mean that every thought gets materialized. Most of the thoughts are weak and are not repeated long enough to gain sufficient strength. Weak thoughts, like a weak magnet, hardly have any attractive power.

You have seen how a magnet draws metal objects. A strong and big magnet draws bigger objects than a small and weak one. Magnets have another peculiar characteristic. One side of the magnet draws, and the other side repels.

The power of attraction is a neutral power. The magnet draws to itself everything made of iron, no matter whether it is a useful object or junk. The mind acts in the same way. It attracts into your life positive and negative situations and events, according to the thoughts that you think.

Like the magnet the mind does not only attract, but also repels. If you do not believe that you can get or accomplish something, then you repel it. Thoughts of incompetence, weakness, fear and inferiority create a repellent force. It is as if you are creating a wind that blows away and prevents certain things to reach you.

There are several ways to charge your mind and thoughts with magnetic power. Strong desire, concentration and faith are some of the important ingredients for infusing power into thoughts.

Many activate the magnetic power of their mind unconsciously, without knowing what they are doing. When you know the rules, you become able to activate the magnetic power of your mind consciously, positively and effectively.

Visualizing and thinking with concentration, desire and faith, and repeating these thoughts often, unleashes powerful energy. Your thoughts get radiated and broadcasted, influencing the minds of other people, and attracting to you people who think along the same lines as you do and who can help you with your plans. This process also heightens your awareness and perceptiveness of any opportunity connected with your thoughts that comes your way, and fills you with the inner power and initiative to utilize it.

Why not become conscious of your thoughts, choose to think the ones that are beneficial for you, and consciously and advantageously utilize the power of attraction? You can attract people, circumstances, events, possessions or a life style with the magnetic power of attraction of your mind.

Remember, what you think about intently, with attention and feeling is attracted to you. It can be material and it can be spiritual. The power of attraction is a universal power and manifests everywhere and in everything. It is the power that holds the Universe together. Without it there would not be any world.

Many people believe the route to success is to be interesting—to show off or act like someone else. For example, many teenagers can’t understand why they are unpopular. They learned as children that to get attention they should act up a little; to be as interesting as possible. Yet acting interesting does not make a teenager popular. To handle their unpopularity, they might decide to despise people or become loners. Or they try harmful acts to gain respect: smoking, drinking, graffiti, shoplifting, drugs, sex, guns and so on.

Acting interesting can ruin your adult life as well. Show-off employees, self-centered managers and pompous business owners rarely do well for long.

The secret to popularity is not to be interesting, but to be interested.

“When a person becomes terribly interesting he has lots of problems, believe me. That is the chasm which is crossed by all of your celebrities, anybody who is foolish enough to become famous. He crosses over from being interested in life to being interesting. And people who are interesting are really no longer interested in life. It’s very baffling to some young fellow why he can’t make some beautiful girl interested in him. Well, she is not interested, she is interesting.” — L. Ron Hubbard

If you are an actor on stage, you are interesting while acting. Seminar speakers are interesting. Comedians, models and magicians are interesting.

Yet in real life, on a one-on-one basis, interesting people are irritating. They only do things to get your attention and admiration. They believe they are on stage acting for an audience of one.

If you want people to cooperate with you, to like you or to open up to you, you must be interested.

Instead of focusing on yourself, you start to focus on others. You notice what makes them happy or unhappy. Your attention comes off of you and onto others.

When your thoughts are more on others than on yourself, you feel little stress. You act and respond with more intelligence. Your production level increases and you have more fun.

When you are interested, people love your interest in them. They want to be around you. You are popular.

Five Ways to Be More Interested

1. Strive to shift your attention from yourself onto other people or objects. This is a great stress reliever.

2. Find things about people that interest you. Force yourself to look for interesting things. Soon you will automatically take interest in people without thinking about it.

3. If you catch yourself acting like someone else, you are being interesting. Simply get interested in the person in front of you and you’ll feel more natural. You are most effective when you are simply being yourself.

4. When someone makes you nervous or shy, get interested in them. Take your attention off of yourself and on to others. With practice, you will be calm, even bold.

5. Focus on how you can help others. Let your interest in helping people replace your tendency to act interesting. Your effectiveness and popularity will soar.

Are you having fun? Do you get a thrill from your work? Do you enjoy waking up each morning?

Myths about work can hurt your progress. “Work is not supposed to be fun.” “You must buckle down and get serious.”

Perhaps the biggest myth of all: “People will think I’m important if I act seriously.” Yet getting serious creates problems: stress, worry, anxiety, emotional pain, drudgery and failure.

Resolving problems by getting more serious is like fixing a computer with a hammer. The harder you try, the worse the problem becomes.

“When life becomes serious, a man becomes less cause and greater effect. If life gets really serious, his value drops to practically zero. Driving a car can become such serious business that one can wreck the car. Running a business can become so serious as to make it fail. There is a direct connection between insanity and seriousness.” “It is only when an individual progresses in life to a point where much seriousness is attached to things that he begins to have a hard time. The ancient Italian really knew what he was about when he considered that the only psychotherapy was laughter.” — L. Ron Hubbard

12 Ways to Lighten Up

Approaching your life with a non-serious attitude gives you a clearheaded view of difficulties and the energy to deal with them. Problems are easier to solve, people are more cooperative and you feel more relaxed. You probably live longer and more successfully, as well.

Try these ideas until you find one that lightens you up.

1. Deliberately turn a molehill into a mountain. Make a big deal out of a little problem. “I would feel much better if these papers were stacked exactly like this! Not like that! Like this! Not this! This!”

2. Ask yourself, “Is getting serious about this situation really going to improve it?”

3. Focusing on the positives. “What is right about this situation?” “What else is right?” “What else?”

4. Consider a complete, major change. For example, go back to school, move to the ocean, start a new career.

5. Ask yourself, “When I’m on my deathbed, will I be glad I was so serious about _______?”

6. A challenging game is much better than no game at all. So consider losing all aspects of the problem. Examples: You feel serious about family problems. You ask yourself, “Well, what if I had no family at all?” You feel serious about your investments. You ask yourself, “What if I had no money to invest?”

7. The size of your problem may match the size of your game. So get a bigger game. For example, if you get uptight about paper clips being in the wrong drawer, your game size is tiny. Double your amount of responsibility. Set some huge goals. Succeed by thinking much, much bigger.

8. Stop trying to solve the problem that is making you so serious. Certain types of problems solve themselves if you leave them alone. Your problem may be one of those.

9. Compare what you are doing to other careers. Imagine being a septic tank drainer or a tax collector.

10. Make everyone around you lighten up.

11. Look at bizarre solutions. What is the craziest way you could solve your problem? What solution, if it worked, would make you laugh out loud?

12. Act stupid for a minute. Let down your hair. Stop being so darn important for a while. Be a goof!
